Huawei Australia are offering undergraduates studying a technology/science related discipline the opportunity to travel to China on a three week work experience program from 23rd November to 12th December 2019

Seeds for the Future: China Experience is a global initiative which has been successfully operating since 2008, has been implemented in 108 countries worldwide and over 4,700 students have participated in the program.

Since 2013, Huawei Australia has provided over 100 Australian undergraduates with the opportunity to learn about China and to experience Huawei’s dynamic global business – an invaluable addition to any CV when looking for a job after graduation.

Participants spend an initial period in Beijing gaining Mandarin language training and learning more about Chinese culture at the Beijing Language and Cultural University; one of the best universities in Beijing. While there the group will also visit The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall of China. Students are then flown to Huawei’s Headquarters in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, where they learn about our international business culture and values and spend time learning about Huawei’s products and solutions.

At Huawei HQ, students also receive technical training from some of the finest professionals in the industry.

What Expenses are covered?

  • Return economy flights to China (includes domestic flights required as part of the program)

  • Ground transfers required as part of the program
  • VISA application costs

Application Criteria

To be considered for Huawei’s China Experience programme students need to match the following criteria:

Provide a minimum 500 word submission that answers “Economic factors aside, why do you think Australia’s relationship with Asia is important? How do you see yourself building a career connected to Asia?”

  • Australian Citizen (Students cannot receive a Student Grant to undertake a Mobility Project in a host location in which they have dual citizenship or residency rights)
  • Be aged between 18 & 28 years
  • Not previously received one short term or semester grant from the Colombo Mobility program (with or without an internship during course of Australian study)
  • Studying a STEM or related discipline
  • Be a middle year undergraduate student
  • Demonstrate excellent academic acumen (transcript must be provided)
  • Strong interest in telecoms and technology issues
  • Fascinated by the rise of Asia and are keen to get practical experience from a dynamic global business
  • Be available for the mandatory Briefing Session in Brisbane on 11th October

Please note:
  • Successful applicants will be expected to attend a briefing session prior to departure where they will have the opportunity to meet with others participating in the program. 
  • This is a non-salaried work experience programme and participation does not imply that employment is guaranteed following graduation.

China Experience: Seeds for the Future is a 3 week immersive program based in China. Successful applicants spend an initial period at the Beijing Language and Cultural University. From there they are flown to Huawei’s HQ in Shenzhen where they learn about Huawei’s international business culture and receive technical training from some of the finest professionals in the industry. In 2019 the program will run from 23 November to 12 December.
